The higher ed challenge

snufkin

Building sustainable websites and applications for organisations in the higher education sector has always been challenging. Contrary to the private sector typically larger teams are involved, who are usually migrating away from an old system. There are various factors which makes these engagements challenging: the democratic nature of the organisation, the cultural shock of adopting Drupal, the complex requirements and the often tighter-than-private-sector-project budgets all contributing.

This session explains the typical obstacles for both businesses engaging with higher eds, but equally to representatives of the sector to help them understand the technical challenges and to align their approach to such projects accordingly.

The main topics covered in this session will be:

  • Structured vs unstructured content - when migrating away from a legacy CMS
  • Where to cut corners - the risks and complex requirements in higher ed (SSO, content syncronisation)
  • Managing internal stakeholder and user expectation to successfully manage the project deliverables
