Hosting after Apache
We all talk about fast websites, caching, HTTP2, Varnish and we use the good old LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) Stack all the way.
At Amazee Labs, we started to build our Hosting-Stack from the ground up with all the bells and whistles we want to have built in.
By building the whole Stack from scratch, we could benefit from our previous experience. . We decided early on to drop Apache as our webserver and switched to Nginx. Since the features of HTTP2 are slowly being implemented to mainstream browsers and performance is more than just adding varnish in front of your site, there is more work to do across the whole stack.
We focused on maintainability, leveraging automation, reusing of our current processes like automating deployments.
Growing our client base in the US also adds a new "Availability Zone" to our setup. We like to go the extra mile and serve the sites based on our customers’ needs. If they want to have the privileges of hosting in Switzerland (say hello do data security) or if the customer wishes to host on their own site, we'll offer that too.
We’d love to share our thoughts on this path.
