Marketer features and the future of Drupal

vollepeer

When we look at Drupal 8, a lot has changed under the hood of the core system compared to Drupal 7. Next to the technical advancements like the adoption of an Object Oriented architecture and the addition of the configuration management system, a list of end-user functionalities is incorporated (inline editing, responsive back-end, etc.).

These end-user functionalities are definitely a step forward regarding functionality for webmasters. However, some huge blind spots still remain. In this session, we would like to indicate certain functionalities commonly asked for by marketers and editorial teams currenlty not available in the Drupal ecosystem.

Some examples might include:

  • Preparing and staging content changes in bundles (content, taxonomy, menu, ...)
  • Advanced digital asset management functionality
  • Visual representation of content workflow

When talking to clients, we often capture these kind of requirements. Drupal can certainly handle a subset of these functionalities, but often lacks in offering an elegant end-to-end solution. This session will elaborate on these needs and try to indicate ways for Drupal to improve in the future.
