Restricting team size to power global growth

Most successful Drupal shops grow based on the demand for more resources. Growth brings along a variety of challenges and often leads to disappointed clients and unhappy team members. What if you restricted the size of a team at one geographical location, and instead started a new location?

Amazee Labs consciously decided to take this path. A few years ago the Board restricted team sizes to 21 people. In 2014 an office was opened in Texas, USA and in June 2015 an office will open at a third location. This globalisation strategy brings a different set of challenges than growing big at one place. Why does it make sense to implement this pressure valve, and why should you step out of your home turf?
