Take control of your application's lifecycle

acrollet

There are many complex problems to be dealt with in the life-cycle of a Drupal application. Several of these challenges are "people problems", which require their own specific approach. Others, however, can be resolved or alleviated by applying appropriate processes and tools. Drawing from my experience managing multiple large client projects and building Drupal-based SaaS products over the past several years, I will discuss some of the pitfalls I’ve experienced and the solutions that have come out of them. The tools and processes find their best expression mediating the intersection of skills between project managers, technical leads and developers / dev-ops. People in the team need to be able to handle the entire "stack" of knowledge in order to successfully deliver and maintain a Drupal project. My hope is that the lessons learned contained in this talk will help speed up the process.

Some of the topics addressed will include:

  • Dealing with scope/timeline/budget issues during all project phases

  • Stepping outside of the design, user experience and technical architecture silos

  • Getting buy-in from all stakeholders

  • Working with multiple developers on multiple features simultaneously

  • Working with external/client developers

  • Making the transition from pre-launch development to working on a live site

  • Properly reviewing and testing changes as they are made, before they're deployed

You should come if:

  • You’re a Project Manager who wants to get a broader view of the challenges developers face in delivering a Drupal application

  • You come from a development background and wish to improve your project management skills

  • You’re a full-time developer/Ops professional wanting to make a business case for an investment in continuous integration and other DevOps processes
