Why Taxonomies matter for your overall content strategy

kalte2707

Taxonomies are a fix part of Drupal core since a long time - and there are many powerful and useful features and services you can realise by managing your taxonomies in an efficient and structured way, like search, contextualisation and linking of content, creation of glossaries and/or related content widgets as well as the automatic creation of dossier pages, ....

But nowadays there are also modules and solutions for linked (open) taxonomies (LOTs) in place that can be used to make e.g. seach or content recommendation much more powerful than with the classic taxonomy approach of using hierarchical ones.... For example by making use of DBpedia or other freely available taxonomies (as e.g. AgroVoc for agricultural data, or EuroVoc for European content or GEMET for environmental information, etc).

Finally such Taxonomies can be used not only for an organisations web solution(s) but also for other data & information management system as DMS, CRM or KMS etc - thereby the efficient and sustainable development and maintenance of such taxonomies / meta data (some also see it as part of an organisations master data) is key for a successful content strategy!

Martin Kaltenböck explains the above described important parts of and related steps for a successful meta data / taxonomy strategy as an important part of an organisations' sustainable content strategy in his talk and how to make the use of linked open taxonomies a sccess! He presents real world examples from SWC customer projects in the field (as e.g. from Wolters Kluwer, Council of Europe, REEEP or Health Direct Australia).
