Automation for Project Managers: Magic in the Middle of your Process

Deliver quality faster with a collaborative design/build workflow and Continuous Integration.

From Local development setup to continuous integration to automated deployments, the topic of CI is usually thought of as a developer-focused geekfest. But as project managers, we’re in charge of completing projects on time and on budget—so it’s important to understand how the automation of common development tasks can turbocharge the projects you manage.

For example, using a service that provides a URL for each different feature a developer is working on, we’re able to keep separate code branches for each feature and test each one before it’s merged into our main project. This allows us to review not just functionality, but also design fidelity. While this may sound like a minor change, it has a profound impact on how we work. It allows us to deliver higher quality work faster—and is especially powerful when working collaboratively with designers throughout the development process.

This talk will cover
  • What is Continuous Integration (CI)?

  • How does CI fit into the project management lifecycle?

  • How per-branch environments work and what you can do with them

  • Overview of services like Probo.CI and Tugboat.qa (and a couple others currently in development)

Who is this talk for
  • Anyone who manages projects

  • Designers looking for a better way to collaborate with developers

  • Developers who want to get feedback on their work early and often
