Sprints

What is a Sprint?

A sprint is a get-together for focused work on a project. Sprints are an important part of Drupal's growth, and are also a great opportunity to get involved, because others are on hand to help you contribute. There are many sprints scheduled for DrupalCon, so come and collaborate in person with hundreds of other Drupal community members!

Who should come?

Everyone! You don't need to be a developer to contribute; we need project managers, bug reporters, QA testers, people to help write documentation, etc... If you ARE a developer, but not sure where to get started, we have mentors to show you the ropes.

If you prefer to set up your own Drupal 8 environment, here are the tools you will need. Or, you can try the tools installer.

Do I need to register for DrupalCon to attend sprints?

We have many opportunities to sprint and some require a DrupalCon ticket, but many other don't. Check below to see an overview:

  • DrupalCon Ticket Required
    • Tuesday-Thursday sprints at Convention Center
  • Free to Attend
    • Monday sprints at Convention Center
    • Friday sprints at Convention Center

What if I'm new to Drupal and/or sprinting, how can I join?

If you feel new and would love helping hands, the best day to start is the Friday sprint day. This is the biggest sprint day with many people sprinting and different opportunities based on experience level. For a guided introduction to the tools and processes we use to collaborate, go to the First Time Sprinter workshop in the morning. If you know the tools but still could use help picking issues and going through the process, the Mentored Core Sprint is for you.

I worked on Drupal before, which sprints are for me?

If you have experience with Drupal issues and maybe already know a team/topic, any days of a DrupalCon may be your sprint days. These sprints do not have formal mentoring available, but of course if you have questions, there are always plenty of friendly people to help you.

When are sprints?

April 28: Sprint Day - General Sprints, Mentored Core Sprint, First-Time Sprinter Workshop at Baltimore Convention Center

We also provide a 24-hour Sprinter Lounge that opens on April 24th at 7:00pm and will close on Thursday, April 27th at midnight.  The Sprinter Lounge will be located at the Hilton Baltimore (401 West Pratt Street) in room Peale A-C.
