Under pressure — Keeping yourself and your team healthy

Work can put an enormous strain on people. Okay, in IT we're far from having to dig for coal hundreds of meters below ground. But even as knowledge workers in bright and tidy offices, we often experience significant pressure to deliver results on a day-to-day basis. What can we do to not succumb to this pressure? How can we stay sane in a world of rapidly changing objectives?

In our workplaces, homes and social gathering points, there are people who depend on us to answer these questions and to take the necessary actions to ensure they are supported appropriately.

There are many aspects to this, ranging from time management to company culture. Some things can to be done on an individual level, some as a team, some need management attention. If this was easy, we wouldn't have to talk about it. And the frequent use of the word "burnout" in tech circles is only one indication that we really have to.

In my presentation, I'm going to share my experience with maintaining a steady level of energy for myself and my company. Regardless if you’re a manager, an employee or self-employed, in this talk you’ll learn useful practices like:

  • Reducing time and resource pressure
  • Using the STOP method to restore focus
  • Developing good habits
  • Breaking out of the negative belief cycle
  • Building healthy relationships
  • Dealing with change

Even though mental health is a serious topic, I'm going to keep my talk light-hearted. There are some funny stories I'm allowed to share — because they're mostly about my own failures and what they taught me.
