Configuration Management Basics for Site Builders
Configuration Management is one of the 'killer features' for Drupal 8. It allows us to more easily move configuration from one environment to another. But for site builders and administrators, it can also be an intimidating tool and one more thing to complicate the site building process.
Although configuration management is a tool for managing configuration (something site builders and admins know how to do), it involves command line tools, knowledge of version control, and is seemingly a tool for developers. This session will try and bridge that gap.
The session will cover the basics of configuration management, and what you need to know to start using it in your site building workflow. We'll start with the most basic use case (moving configuration from one environment to another), and then move on to how to adapt that workflow when you're collaborating with a team, creating multiple sites, or want to change configuration on a live site.
Topics will include:
- Basic commands and interface for configuration management
- How to use configuration management when you're working with a team
- How to manage configuration after your site is launched
- Some contrib modules that you might need to help you with configuration management
