A lot of organizations are struggling to be more inclusive, and aren’t sure where to begin on making their digital office accessible. Not only is accessibility and accommodation a legal requirement in the United States, it is the right thing to do. From this session you’ll learn why competitive organizations should hire people with disabilities as well as what steps can be taken to make sure that individual reaches their highest potential. You will also learn how Drupal can play an important role in this goal.

Drupal is a great web platform, but is still largely known as a CMS. Most organizations do not realize that Drupal can also be used as a front end for other critical functions that require an accessible, consistent, user-experience for everyone. Drupal Core comes with strong accessibility defaults, but not every Drupal site is accessible. Drupal can save money (on lawyers, training, accommodation) and help staff, volunteers and clients interact with each other through your site. Investing in systems that have good accessibility defaults will save most organizations money over the long haul.

You  will learn:

  • Learn why you should hire people with disabilities, and how to seek them out
  • What accessibility is built in to Drupal and what is lacking
  • How to evaluate contributed themes & modules
  • Key takeaways from accessibility and inclusion within the Drupal community that you can apply to your organization
