Extending Profiles - Distributions as building blocks

Back in 2011, user e2thex opened issue #1356276. Now titled "Allow profiles to provide a base/parent profile and load them in the correct order", the issue has been debated, rearchitected, migrated to the D8 issue queue, had its scope adjusted, and debated some more for the last six years. This session will focus on the benefits of inheritable profiles and how they could revolutionize Drupal development and architecture.
Depending on whether #1356276 gets committed to 8.3.x, this session will also cover either:
- What existing projects can do now that we have inheritable profiles in core, or
- What current projects can do to future-proof themselves to take advantage of inheritable profiles when it does land.
Attendees should have general knowledge of Drupal, what profiles can do, and configuration management.
