Content auditing must be part of any overall content planning process, and is an important step in a project’s Discovery phase. A well-planned audit of your existing content and content development practices will help ensure successful Design and Development phases. Like the overall Discovery phase, the content audit seeks to understand the needs and pain points of your project’s stakeholders, define who’s on the team, and determine the scope of what the project will and won’t include.

Join FFW Information and User Experience Architect Jim Doria and FFW Center of Excellence Director Ray Saltini for this practical hands on approach to conducting content audits as they walk you through four key steps to a successful content audit:

  1. Stakeholder Kickoffs
  2. Mapping The Existing Site Structure
  3. Mapping Page Structure and Establishing Commonalities
  4. Cataloging Content Structure and Required Repurposing

Participants will receive concrete examples of content planning processes and artifacts, in each of these steps, including:

  • Building an annotated site map / spreadsheet outlining the structure of the current site with notes about proposed migration strategies
  • Creating a table of user roles relating to content, applying to both site visitors and site maintainers
  • Building a catalog of page elements and the high-level rules that govern their behavior
  • Generating an ordered list of preliminary page templates

This session is appropriate for all individuals involved in content planning activities including designers, information architects, support staff and subject matter experts.
