mrkdboyd

Web accessibility is a sometimes misunderstood and often overlooked component of web development, but accessibility is fundamental to the mission and purpose of the web. However, even when accessibility is properly valued, it can be difficult to know if you are following good accessibility practices as a developer or if your site’s content is accessible. This session will explore both topics, addressing both the why and the how of web accessibility, including a live demo of using the Holmes module to audit web accessibility in Drupal.

No prior knowledge of accessibility is necessary to attend this session. This session will cover:

  • What web accessibility is and why it is important
    • Standards such as 508 or WCAG
  • Accessibility in Drupal
    • Drupal 8 defaults for accessibility
    • Encouraging accessible content
  • Easy accessibility wins
  • Basic/common accessiblity issues
    • Development patterns to avoid
  • What the Holmes module is and how to use it to audit your site for accessibility
