Protecting the Open Web and Why it Matters
Drupal is a small part of a large ecosystem called the Open Web, a movement that values freedom, inclusion, and cooperation over proprietary and exclusive technology. The fortunes of the Open Web are directly related to the fortunes of Drupal and everyone who works within this ecosystem. If you believe that the Internet should be a force for good, you probably care about the Open Web. But most of you already know this.
In this talk, we will offer practical advice on how to grow our community and spread the values of the Open Web. We will suggest specific actions that you can take outside of your involvement in the Drupal space and recommend specific topics that you might highlight, such as digital literacy, openness, free software, the economy of the closed web and privacy.
We stand at a transformative moment in human history. Our friends, family, and others look to us as technology influencers. We should do everything we can to spread the values of the Open Web, not only because that will help Drupal, but because that will improve the world. Attendees will leave equipped with the resources they need to educate others and protect the Open Web.
