Running a Local Community: learnings from the Dutch Drupal foundation

BarisW

The Dutch Drupal foundation started in 2010 as a body to control funds for DrupalJam, the largest and oldest Drupal camp in the Netherlands. Baris Wanschers has been part of the board ever since and is chair of the foundation for the last 4 years. In these years, the foundation organized a lot of amazing events and initiatives. To sum a few up:

  • DrupalJam: Drupal camp
  • Drupal Training Day: free training for 250 students
  • Splash Awards: awards competion for the best Drupal websites
  • DrupalCon social events: we organized all social events around DrupalCon Amsterdam
  • Drupal 8 Release Party
  • And many others

We have an amazing, triving local community and we are happy to share our learnings and findings of the past few years.

  • How do we organize all these events?
  • What can other communities learn from the Dutch?
  • What went well? What could be (or should be) improved?
  • How to raise money to organise all these great events?

The session will be beneficial for all who are interested in organizing local events and raining funds or for those who just like to see all the cool stuff we do in the Netherlands.
