Leveraging Drupal SaaS to Power 400 Websites as Unique as Independent Bookstores
Leveraging Drupal SaaS to Power 400 Websites as Unique as Independent Bookstores
The American Booksellers Association (ABA), a national not-for-profit trade organization, works to ensure and protect the diversity, success, and profitability of independently owned book retailers.
Since 1999, ABA has provided IndieCommerce, a SaaS-based e-commerce platform, exclusively to its members. In 2008 the IndieCommerce project moved to Drupal. Starting in 2022, the project was reimagined with help from Lullabot to become “IndieCommerce 2.0”, with the goal of making member websites more attractive, easier to use, more profitable, more scalable, faster to improve, and easier to maintain.
Two years on, we have launched over 400 IndieCommerce sites and migrated members from our legacy Drupal 7 platform to Drupal 10. Join us as we reflect on what we’ve learned, including:
* Developing sophisticated e-commerce features using Drupal Commerce and other modules
* Building tools and making difficult choices to manage a fleet of hundreds of separate but interrelated websites with a small team
* Migrating content from hundreds of sites, some of them very large and complex, from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10
* Applying the lessons learned over more than a decade helping independent bookstore owners and employees use Drupal to craft a better experience they will love
