Diversity and Inclusion: Transforming Lives Through Drupal

Diversity is the concept that any individual academically or physically qualified for a specific job could strive for (and possibly succeed) at obtaining the said job without being discriminated against based on identity.

But in reality, there are two problems with this concept. The first one is that different people have different needs, so a workplace will not retain talents from different groups if it doesn't address these needs. Also, underrepresented groups have had less opportunity in life to become academically or even physically qualified to do most jobs.

That's why the focus has shifted to diversity and inclusion. We need to address these differences knowing that it is more than just hiring, rather, we need to retain these talents, and to do that, we need to research what they really need. The biggest advantage to a company and to the community is that with different ideas, we reach more people, we help more people, and we are more visible. And with people from a variety of backgrounds, we deliver better products.

In this session, we will discuss challenges that a global company with 6500+ employees faces, and how we are using different programs and engines to increase diversity and inclusion. This includes the Drupal hiring process, where we were able to achieve more than 70% of employees hired and retained belonging to minority groups. We will also talk about two cases of success that gave us some insights on the subject.
