Simplify and standardize with an image plan for your Drupal site

Simplify and standardize with an image plan for your Drupal site

Having an effective plan for how images will be used on a Drupal site can help to create a consistent appearance, improve performance, and simplify development. While it's most beneficial to define and implement a plan at the beginning of a web project, strategies can also be employed to improve an existing site.

Development of a well-built website requires answering the following questions:
- What types, sizes, and quality of images are needed?
- What effects will need to be applied to images?
- Will site editors need to be able to crop or otherwise alter images they've uploaded?
- Will responsive image styles be needed to support a range of devices and screen widths?
- Should images be reusable across the site?

Often these questions are answered in an ad hoc manner during site development, leading to disorganized site configuration, visual inconsistency, reduced site performance, and redundant effort.

This session will address all of the questions above, as well as:
- How to save time by generating image styles in bulk with the Image Style Generate module
- How to standardize image proportions to a defined set of aspect ratios
- When a third-party image hosting service may be preferable to hosting on the site's server
- How to name and organize image files within directories in the file system
- How to allow unrestricted generation of image derivatives
