From Many to One: Migrating 70+ Disparate Local Government Websites onto a Cohesive Drupal Platform

The session will delve into the challenges inherent in the migration process: dealing with large amounts of content, various hosting environments, and multiple data formats. The experience of using a custom scraping tool and the Drupal Migrate API to migrate data from different CMS’s to Drupal will be covered, along with essential migration processing needed for managing content migrations and some useful contributed modules that can assist in the site migration process.
Additionally, the user experience advantages of Layout Builder, such as its ability to create easily configurable pages will be emphasized. Attendees will see some examples of pages with customizable sections and how it can be used to build a interesting pages that meets various government departments' needs.
Common content types suitable for a government website, such as Events, News, Landing Pages, and Locations, etc, will be covered, with a a description of each content type, including its use case, key fields, and related functionality.
The strategy we used to deliver an enterprise level theme while at the same time giving child level departments the ability to pick from theme variations that would give them more individuality while all being cohesive to the brand.
