DrupalCon Europe organizers are committed to making the event more sustainable and impactful.
Their goal is to drive sustainability efforts while creating lasting, positive change for the community, the event industry, and the planet.
Since DrupalCon Lille 2023, sustainability has been integrated from the very beginning of the planning process. Building on past successes and lessons learned, the organizers continue to embed green practices and initiatives into every aspect of the conference.
We serve plant-forward meals - vegan and pescetarian only - using local, seasonal ingredients to cut carbon impact.
No disposables are used, and safe leftovers are donated.
Dietary needs are respected and collected in advance to reduce waste.
We support attendee wellbeing with healthy food, free massages, and stress-reducing workshops.
Quiet zones and a relaxing area with light activities like table tennis offer space to recharge and reconnect throughout the event.
We choose energy-efficient venues, promote low-emission travel, and offset carbon where possible.
From digital-first logistics to eco-conscious suppliers and sponsors, we aim to reduce our footprint through intentional decisions.
We’re committed to a welcoming, inclusive DrupalCon.
We offer grants and scholarships to underrepresented groups, connect attendees through the Local Associations Stand and Newcomer Program, and celebrate diversity through safe spaces and initiatives like Women in Drupal.
Everyone can contribute - from first-timers to long-time community members - with mentoring, workshops, and dedicated contribution time.
We avoid single-use items, limit printed materials, and offer refill stations to cut waste.
Clear sorting stations help attendees recycle and compost properly.
Swag is minimal, useful, and sustainable — or skipped altogether.
We engage sponsors, attendees, and suppliers to join our sustainability goals.
From green stand options to train travel contests and local charity support, every group plays a role.
Internally, our teams align through training and shared responsibility.
As DrupalCon Vienna 2025 comes to a close, we’re sending our beloved mascot, Franz Jozef, on his final Drupal adventure. Continuing a cherished tradition, it’s time for the annual Mascot Auction!
Place your bid through the DrupalCon mobile app and support a pre-selected charity of your choice for a chance to take Franz Jozef home. The highest bid wins.
Bidding is open until 16 October 2025 at 12:00 CEST, and the winner will be announced during the Wrap-Up Ceremony.
This year, you can choose to donate to one of the following pre-selected charities:
Doctors Without Borders provides emergency medical aid in conflict and crisis areas in more than 70 countries worldwide.
When the healthcare system collapses, Doctors Without Borders steps in and cares for patients, regardless of who they are, what they believe in, or which side of a conflict they are on. They help people in need – neutrally, independently, and impartially. At the same time, they give those affected a voice and report on the hardship they experience on the ground.
Doctors Without Borders Austria is 100% funded by private donations. This ensures its independence from political, economic or religious interests.
If you would like to make a direct donation to Doctors Without Borders, you can do so at the NEDA stand during DrupalCon Vienna 2025, or online using the link below.
Please note that direct donations will not count toward the mascot auction.
GLOBAL 2000 is Austria’s largest environmental protection organization.
We are committed to preserving nature and the environment, and to creating a livable future for all. Together with hundreds of thousands of people by our side, we inspire change in society, politics, and business. We identify problems, expose grievances, and present solutions for a sustainable future. The support of our donors ensures the independence of our work. Together, we fight for what is beautiful.

At DrupalCon Europe, we actively encourage our sponsors to adopt more sustainable practices and play a key role in reducing the event’s environmental impact.
Sponsors have the power to make a significant difference by choosing eco-friendly stand constructions, minimizing printed materials and giveaways, opting for responsible travel, or launching their own sustainability initiatives.
By supporting our sponsors, you also support their commitment to a greener, more responsible Drupal community. Let’s celebrate their efforts and continue building a more sustainable future together.
At DrupalCon Barcelona 2024, Halvar earned first place in the Sponsor Contest for their impressive dedication to sustainable practices. They excelled across all judging areas, with notable actions in low-impact travel, eco-friendly booth construction, and thoughtfully picked giveaways. By prioritizing train travel, reusing event materials, and offering items like Fairphone Fairbuds XL and erasable Bambook notebooks, Halvar raised the bar for sustainable efforts in tech events, embodying a strong commitment to environmental responsibility.
