The future of frameworks and human written code

The future of frameworks and human written code

Jorge Lopez-lago

We are entering the age of throwaway software, where AI is getting better and better at writing code. Considering the speed of progress here, the economic incentives to reduce costs and maximise profits and the importance of rapid turnarounds of deliverables, what is the future of frameworks and of human written code?
How far are we of an AI system to be able to write a whole application? Considering this, how many more years of Drupal do we have ahead of us?
It may be the case that this will never happen due to non-code related issues, but I think it is a reasonable question to ask. Everyone is affected here. What will be the role of developers? What will be the accountability of companies?
This conversation focuses on the possibility of a hostile takeover of the industry by AI. We all have heard the nice possible outcomes, but we all are worried about the bad ones. This is an opportunity to discuss them and, perhaps, to see there is nothing to worry about.
