Drupal CMS by design: How continuous UX research is building a product you can depend on

Drupal CMS by design: How continuous UX research is building a product you can depend on

Emma Horrell (Emma-horrell)

Every feature in Drupal CMS has earned its place. Future versions are evolving through research, evidence, and a relentless focus on what people actually need. This session tells the story of how that works in practice, and how the community is part of it.

Prerequisite

No prior knowledge is needed for this session, however, attendees will get the most out of this session if they have a working familiarity with Drupal CMS, to know what the product is about and the audiences it is aimed at. The session may appeal to those interested in using Drupal CMS in the context of a project or organisation, and more broadly, to those with a curiosity about UX research and its role in product development and decision-making in Drupal.

Target Audience

Anyone with an interest in Drupal CMS, whether they are an existing Drupal CMS user, or a prospective user, or someone keen to know the way Drupal CMS is shaping up and what it stands to offer them. Will also appeal to those with feedback, comments and questions about Drupal CMS, whether they are site builders, content creators, developers or contributors.

Outline

Drupal CMS encapsulates the best of Drupal, it’s Drupal’s signature product that will bring Drupal to new audiences and break new ground in site building, content management and digital experience orchestration. But when there’s so much innovation in Drupal, how do you choose what to include? Short answer: UX research.
As UX Research Lead for Drupal CMS, it's my job to make sure Drupal CMS keeps getting better and better, in an agile, evidence-led way. In this session I’ll bring you the latest developments from the research-led roadmap of Drupal CMS. You'll learn how research threads from Drupal Marketplace, the AI Initiative and ECA next generation are being woven into the fabric of Drupal CMS — not as bolt-on features, but as part of a coherent product vision that's grounded in what users actually need. Expect to hear about: site templates, onboarding, content and editorial workflows, migration, integrations, to name a few.
Drupal CMS is for the community by the community so I’ll also share findings from a survey of current users and those who haven't yet made the switch. You’ll understand what those insights mean for every major decision we're making over the coming months and have your chance to feed into future of Drupal CMS.

Learning Objectives

After attending this session attendees will be able to:
-Understand the ‘why’ behind the features in Drupal CMS, making the connection between features and audience needs and expectations
-Engage directly with the person behind the UX research of Drupal CMS – to give feedback, propose needs and ask questions
-Appreciate the evidence-led approach and process to developing Drupal CMS as a viable product
