Drupal CMS, site templates and beyond

Drupal CMS, site templates and beyond

Cristina Chumillas, Pamela Barone

Drupal CMS 2 included some major leaps forward, with Drupal Canvas and a site template library, but there's still plenty we need to do to deliver on the strategy.

Prerequisite

Having an existing basic understanding of Drupal CMS is helpful but not mandatory.

Target Audience

Anyone interested in using or contributing to Drupal CMS

Outline

Drupal CMS continues to evolve, with version 2 including full support for Drupal Canvas, as well as a library of site templates providing feature-rich and uniquely designed starting points for Drupal sites.

Six months later, we'll evaluate the real-world impact of site templates, Canvas and CMS in general on the Drupal ecosystem. We will also cover how Drupal CMS can help on existing websites, as well as feedback we've gotten on real life use so far.

And it's still missing some important features: namely multilingual support for Canvas and site templates, along with some other big-ticket items. We're in the process of shaping the roadmap for the next 1-2 years and will provide an update on what we have achieved, what we are still working on and what we need help with.

Some topics we may cover:
* How we're using Canvas and what it offers
* Features and areas we're working on now
* Plans for future versions ongoing
* What we're looking for from contributors
* How we defined the strategy and scope
* Using the strategy to define the roadmap and what it looks like now
* Highlights from the development of Drupal CMS 2.0 and what we learned

Learning Objectives

Our main goal is to provide attendees with information about what Drupal CMS is, what features it includes, how to use it and how to contribute to it.
