Drupal on persistent servers: Connecting the dots

Drupal on persistent servers: Connecting the dots

Merlin A Rutz (geek-merlin)

Drupal 11.4 boots through symfony/runtime. That brings FrankenPHP worker mode, RoadRunner and Swoole one step closer, and it makes the open questions concrete: sessions, static caches, services that keep request state, globals set at boot, exit and output buffering, database connections that live for hours.

Everyone who has touched this holds a few dots: a core issue, a contrib module, a hosting setup, an experiment that broke. In this BoF we try to connect them.
If it works, we leave with a picture none of us had coming in, perhaps with a shared understanding of what comes next, and perhaps as people who work on it together.

There is no prepared input. Come if you are already in this, or want to be: you run Drupal on FrankenPHP, host long-running PHP, have seen state bleed in Symfony or Octane, or want to help. The basics we take as known; the BoF cannot be an introduction to the topic.

Disclosure: I work on structured concurrency for PHP, one dot in this picture. The BoF is about all of them, not mine.
