How Drupal drives Pinball Machines

How Drupal drives Pinball Machines

Markus Kalkbrenner (Mkalkbrenner)

Let's play Pinball!

Get to know the open source pinball community. And because this is Drupal Con, see what part is Drupal playing in that game.

Prerequisite

You should have heard of Drupal. If you don't know what pinball machine is, you will know it after the session ;-)

Target Audience

People interested in Open Source and Pinball

Outline

Five years ago I started ppuc.org, the Pinball Power-Up Community to develop open source hardware and software to keep old pinball machines alive and to extend their capabilities. Furthermore, we enable people to build their own homebrew pinball machines.
One part of it is that sophisticated game, hardware and effect configurations must be managed. And collaboration on these topics must be possible. That is where Drupal becomes relevant as a (small) piece of the entire eco-system, especially some contrib modules like Default Content Deploy to share content between mutiple installations or AI to extract information from old manuals.
For sure, I will talk about these Drupal specific stuff, but a significant part of the session will be be about the other open source parts and simply about ... Pinball.
Just enjoy to see something different - with a bit of Drupal ;-)

Learning Objectives

Drupal can be embedded as tool into a larger eco-system to ease parts of it.
But even more important, you will learn some basics about pinball machines and how open source software and hardware became relevant in that crazy community in general.
