Open Digital Cooperative is nurturing support for LocalGov Drupal in the UK. Find out how it is working and how you might replicate the model for other Drupal or open source projects.
Prerequisite
No prior knowledge required, but an interest in sustaining and finding open source collaborations would be good.
Target Audience
People working with Drupal and the public sector
Outline
Open Digital Cooperative is a multinational multi-stakeholder cooperative that funds LocalGov Drupal development, support and community growth. In many ways it is analogous to the Drupal Association and leans heavily on the maturity, experience and ethos of the Drupal community.
Funds are gathered and channelled in a number of ways:
- through subscriptions from private and public sector organisations we fund a core team;
- via the community fund we identify opportunities for co-funding projects to solve common needs and replace legacy proprietary software;
- through sponsorship and events we nurture and grow the community to increase the opportunities and the value of collaboration.
So far this is proving successful in the UK and we are starting to explore opportunities for international collaboration.
With member democratic control and transparency at the heart of the community, we think this is an innovative model that could be replicated in other countries or for other open source projects.
