Introducing the DrupalCon 2024 mascot!
We are happy to announce that the mascot of DrupalCon Barcelona 2024 is a salamander and we named her “Mercè”.
The salamander, specifically the mosaic salamander known as “El Drac” (The Dragon), is an iconic symbol of Barcelona and can be found in Park Güell. The park is designed by the legendary Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudí and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Why did we name her “Mercè”? La Mercè, is an annual festival held in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It takes place around The 24th of September, which is the feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, the patron saint of Barcelona. During La Mercè, the streets of Barcelona come alive with a variety of activities, including concerts, street performances, parades, fireworks, and traditional Catalan events such as human towers (castells), sardana dancing, and correfocs (fire runs), where people dress up as devils and run through the streets with fireworks.
As you may notice, the 24th of September is the first day of DrupalCon 2024! We took the name from this festival, with our respect to local culture and tradition and our wish for DrupalCon 2024 to be as vibrant and fun as la Mercè. Hopefully she’ll bring a colorful touch to our event !
