Running a fleet of web sites with ease via LocalGov Drupal Microsites Platform

Running a fleet of web sites with ease via LocalGov Drupal Microsites Platform

Mark Conroy (Markconroy)

Large organisations - governments, universities, multinational corporations, etc - have always run fleets of web sites. However, these are often on disparate platforms, maintained by disparate individuals and agencies. Let's take the pain of managing a fleet of microsites away and manage them all from one Drupal installation - the LGD microsites platform.

Prerequisite
You run a fleet of websites, or will need to run a fleet of web sites.

Outline
Let's have a look at the LGD Microsites Platform. LGD stands for "LocalGov Drupal" but the microsites platform is for any organisation that would like to centralise their web estate, not just local government organisations.

We'll see how you can have one central platform to run all your sites - no more wondering who has they keys to any individual site.

We'll see how all sites on the platform will look identical to your brand guidlines, rather than each site being nearly the same, but with accidental discrepancies because they were implemented by different agencies.

We'll see how you can make small design changes per site, while still maintaining brand consistency.

We'll then see how you can have each site in your portfolio radically different to the other sites. You may have some campaign sites that do not need to retain the brand consistency of your corporate sites.

Finally, we'll dive into the frontend code to show how easy it is to maintain all of this via Drupal's theme inheritance system.

And finally, we'll have time for a Q&A.

Learning Objectives
How to create and maintain a fleet of websites, all hosted as part of one Drupal installation.
